39. Sorcha was lost in thought as she pulled the door open so that she could go down to the infirmary to check if Kyle was up yet. She was still trying to figure out how she was going to tell Kyle she loved him without the baby being an issue. She stepped out of her bedroom door and straight into a solid male chest. The oomph that issued from the person she’s walked into had her looking up and apologizing before she’d even caught her balance. Kyle grabbed Sorcha’s arms to steady her. He was grinning, the thought of his baby daughter still had him on a high that he didn’t think anything could ruin, but he quickly schooled his features to hide the grin before Sorcha saw it. He didn’t want to give her any clue that he knew about the baby. “Hey, not so fast, where are you going in such a hurry?” He let go of her arm and moved past Sorcha into her temporary bedroom – temporary in his mind at least because he intended to have his woman back in their room within the next twenty minutes. “I was coming to check on you.” Sorcha followed Kyle into the bedroom and pushed the door closed, then leaned her back against it. Her heart was pounding so loudly she was sure they could hear it five cities away, and it wasn’t just because Kyle was standing a foot away from her, looking so gorgeous that he made her forget how to breath. It wasn’t because she would love to push him back onto the bed, strip him naked and love him all night. It was because she’d never told anyone she’d loved them, and she still had no idea how she was going to tell Kyle. “Oh? Was there a reason you wanted to come check on me?” He sat down on the bed and leaned back with his palms flat on the bed behind him, then raised a brow expectantly. Sorcha’s eyes were riveted to Kyle, so she didn’t hear exactly what he said. When he’d sat down his tee shirt had pulled up exposing the fine line of hair that ran from his navel and under the waistband of his jeans. All it did was accentuate the smooth skin on his lower stomach. Sorcha chewed on her bottom lip while she fought the urge to climb on to the bed and use her mouth to see exactly where that line disappeared to. “Sorcha?” Kyle felt like grinning, he knew why she was so distracted and it made him want to get distracted himself. “Yes – sorry?” Sorcha shook her head trying to get her mind on the subject at hand. “I asked if there was a reason you wanted to come check on me?” “No, no reason, I was just a little worried and wanted to be sure you’d started healing but I see you have.” She gave him a cheery smile. Kyle’s chest tightened. “There wasn’t something else you wanted to tell me?” He sat up and forward on the edge of the bed, wishing she’d tell him now and ease the expectation that burned in his chest. “No, nothing else.” Kyle’s blood went cold, then heated as he started to get pissed off. She had no intention of telling him about the baby. The woman was standing there devouring him with her eyes, but she didn’t think the fact that she was pregnant with their child was important? “Are you sure Sorcha?” He decided to give her one last chance. “Yeah of course I’m sure.” Sorcha faked utter calm, while inside she was in turmoil, how could she tell him, should she tell him? She couldn’t bring up the baby and then say ‘oh by the way, I love you.’ Kyle would believe immediately that she only wanted someone to take care of them. Kyle stood in one fluid motion and started pacing the space next to the bed. “And now? Why are you pacing?” She had to ask? Kyle felt his temper step up a notch, why the hell wasn’t she telling him. Wasn’t he good enough to know about his own kid? He spun and faced her, his face a mask of rage. “When were you planning on telling me Sorcha? After the baby was born? When you started showing? Or how about never. Were you just going to leave and take my daughter with you?” Sorcha gasped, her face flaming at his accusations. “How dare you!” “Well I gave you a chance to tell me, like three chances if I’m counting right, but at this moment I’d rather kill you than count so forgive me if I fucked the number up.” Sorcha didn’t know what to say. How could she defend herself, he was right she hadn’t told him. How the hell had he found out anyway? It didn’t matter that she’d had every intention of telling him, she hadn’t, and now she’d never have the chance to tell him she loved him. She’d screwed up by waiting, and they were both going to pay for it. She twisted the door handle and opened the door and pointed a shaking hand at the passage. “Get out!” “No.” The door was jerked out of her grasp by an unseen hand and slammed shut. “Kyle…” She spoke quietly, biting down on her teeth to keep from screaming at the obstinate ass. “Leave please.” “No. Not until you tell me why you felt I didn’t need to know about the baby.” “I was going to tell you!” She hissed. “Oh? When?” His voice dripped sarcasm. “Once I figured out how to tell you that I-” Hell no, she wasn’t going to admit that to him now. Not a chance. “That you?” Kyle tensed. What was she trying to say? “Please leave Kyle.” Her face closed down and she pulled the door open again. Kyle realized she was not going to argue with him anymore, there was no way he’d get any answers from her right now so he stomped past her instead of putting his hands around her stubborn neck and wringing it. “We aren’t done with this discussion Sorcha.” He told her as he left the room. “Yes we are Kyle.” She whispered as she closed the door. Sorcha stood on a small stool as Selphie placed pins in the fabric of the lavender dress so that it would fit her like a glove. “I’m don’t mean to be Bridezilla Sorcha, but you are so down your killing the joy.” Drew added a smile to her comment so Sorcha would know it wasn’t meant to be a rebuke. Sorcha smiled an apology at Drew. They were preparing for Drew’s wedding. Sorcha should at least try to seem like she was having fun instead of making the atmosphere of the room as depressed as she was. “Sorry, I’ll do my best to cheer up.” “Do I need to go make something chocolate, or is it the dreaded pregnancy hormones. Don’t answer that - chocolate helps for those too.” Selphie tucked another pin into the pincushion tied on her wrist. “Does the whole compound know about the baby?” Sorcha asked in amazement. “Marcus has a big mouth.” Selphie shrugged. “Kyle stormed into the room ranting about not being good enough to be told he was going to have a daughter. So I got the hint and left so he could rant at Seth and not at me. Selphie shed some light for me after that.” Drew shrugged her shoulders. “I wanted to tell him I loved him first. I didn’t want him to think that I only wanted someone to take care of us.” Sorcha admitted quietly. If anyone would understand what she’d been trying to do these two women would. They’d fast become close friends. So much so that Drew asked Sorcha to be a bridesmaid with Selphie and Brynn. Selphie snorted. “Selphie!” Sorcha looked down at the nymph with shock, how could she react like that? “What? You want me not to tell you that you’re being a stubborn dork?” “Selp!” Sorcha could only gape at her friend. “She’s right you know.” Drew added her two cents worth. “I thought you two would be on my side.” Sorcha gaped at her friends. “We are.” Selphie had been pinning the hem of the dress. She stood and moved to the Sorcha’s other side to continue pinning. “But you aren’t thinking clearly. Think about it Sorcha. You have money right?” “Yeah.” “You are an Omega?” “Yes but what has that got to…” “You are powerful and capable of looking after yourself and your daughter, you don’t need Kyle to do that for you.” Drew explained. “It takes a village Sorcha, and you live in a compound full of Mythos, your daughter would never lack for people to take care of her.” Sorcha’s eyes widened. They had a point, one she hadn’t even thought of. Kyle would be as dense as she had been to believe she only wanted him around for their child. Maybe… “How do I fix the mess I’ve made out of this?” Sorcha wondered out loud. “Go on your knees and beg?” Selphie raised an eyebrow. It was Sorcha’s turn to snort. “Ha! Funny. I’ll make this right, but I wont beg any man for his love.” “I don’t think you’ll have to beg, I think you already have it Sorcha.” Drew noted quietly. Seth watched his brother pace around the carpet once again and shook his head breathing out a deep sigh. He couldn’t blame Kyle, he remembered a time not so long ago when Drew was giving him just as much frustration, and that situation hadn’t included a baby. “You are going to wear a hole in the carpet baby brother.” Seth told Kyle. “So what!” Kyle stopped and glared at Seth. “Then it will be like me, there is a hole in my heart.” “Oh my god.” Seth burst out laughing. “You’re such a drama queen.” “Shut up asshole, I am not a drama queen.” “And you sulk like a baby.” Kyle’s growl had Seth holding up his hands in apology. “Bad choice of words there, sorry.” Kyle resumed his pacing. “I just want to understand why. I was sure she had feelings for me.” “I’m sure she does.” “Yeah?” Kyle stopped pacing to face Seth again. “Then why didn’t she tell me about the baby?” “She must have her reasons Kyle.” “That’s not good enough.” Kyle started pacing again. His anger and frustration a living thing making the air of the room buzz. “First she was pissed because I told you that she and I were a nexus before I told her…” “You did what?” Kyle pinned Seth with a flat stare. “You heard me.” Seth had to laugh again. He folded his arms across his chest. “What happened to all the skill you had with women Kyle? That was a big no-no. You should have told her first.” “Yeah I know that now.” Kyle rolled his eyes. When Seth laughed again Kyle smiled sweetly at his brother. “I remember trying to get Khan to make you open the door to Drew’s room not so long ago. You just stayed in bed like a stubborn jerk.” Seth sobered instantly at the reminder of his own recent troubles. “Don’t go there.” His voice was deadly “Yeah, then don’t mock me. I’m suffering here Seth. What’s so damn funny about my situation anyway?” Seth shrugged his shoulders. “That it’s temporary bro, she’s going to come to her senses sooner or later.” “And in the mean time?” “You wait patiently.” Kyle growled and clenched his fists. “I don’t have any patience left.” “You can’t force this Kyle. If you try you will chase her away forever. Unless…” Seth rubbed his chin as the idea formed in his mind. “Unless what?” “Unless you tell her you love her.” Kyle snorted in disgust. “I’ve shown her Seth. I marked her damn it. I’m not going to tell her I love her, so she can throw it in my face and walk away anyway.” Seth leaned back against the chest of draws and sighed. “Then you’ll have to wait baby brother.” “Thanks for the advice Oprah.” Kyle’s sarcasm was thick. “Anytime.” Seth flashed dimples as he grinned. |
