| 38. Sorcha almost screamed with fright when Sable touched her arm and leaned in to her ear to whisper. “This doesn’t usually work when I say it Sorcha, but remember I’m an Incubus keep muttering that to yourself, but don’t say it loud enough for Raven to hear you.” She nodded letting Sable know she understood. He stepped away from her and Sorcha felt her stomach drop and clench as he turned into a thing of deathly beauty. “Raven.” He spoke the Psy’s name and she had no choice - she had to turn toward the sinful velvet that was Sable’s voice. An unseen breeze picked up tugging playfully with his midnight hair. Pulling it back from his face so that every plane and angle of his angelic features was accented. His tawny skin started to glow, as did his solid black eyes. The effect was breath taking there was no being more beautiful than Sable. Sorcha gasped as she felt an instant uncontrollable desire for him. He’s going completely Incubus. Shit. Incubus! “Incubus.” Sorcha started muttering under her breath over and over, she had to say it out loud and reminding herself that she was not really in love with the sex demon. She looked down as she felt her cat weaving around her legs, she held out a hand to touch the cat and it melted into her hand. Sorcha gasped at the strange feeling. The distraction didn’t last long, Sable was magnetic, and not just for her eyes – her whole body leaned towards him. “Come to me Raven.” Sable spoke again and Sorcha had to fight the urge to obey even though his command was not directed at her. She felt Marcus stand and wrap his arms around her waist as he dipped his head and said in a light tone. “Kyle’s probably going to kill me for touching you, but I’d rather die from that then from what he’d do if I let Sable be-spell you by accident… Incubus Sorcha, remember he is an incubus.” Raven was doing her best to ignore the pull Sable had on her. She planted her feet and muttered. “No, no, no.” Then she screamed at Sable. “I know what you are, I wont come to you.” Marcus’s arms tightened around Sorcha, she looked away from Raven and realized why, Cyan had stepped closer. He was about a foot from Sable and his smile was so beguiling that Sorcha felt her self try and tug Marcus’s hands loose. The cheetah just tightened his hold on her and muttered. “Damn it, like this wasn’t hard enough with just Sable. They are Incubi Sorcha.” Cyan held out a hand toward Raven. His hair flowed around him like a smooth river and his eyes glowed like sapphires. “Come Raven.” His voice was like water to someone dying of thirst and Sorcha had to fight not to fling Marcus off of her so she could run to Cyan. “Come Raven.” Both men spoke at once and Marcus blanched and locked his arms around Sorcha. Raven took a step forward but stopped, dropping to her knees. “No I wont!” Sorcha had to admire Raven’s will power. The woman was not going to break then Sorcha spotted him. She gasped and turned to buried her head in Marcus’s chest, putting her hands over her ears. Crimson had joined his brothers, his shirt was torn and bloodied, but the body it exposed was something no female of any species could ignore. His skin glowed an intensity that made tears leek from Raven’s eyes. His hair blew away from his face and his eyes ware rubies that promised untold delight. The wind the Incubi generated was blowing through the room like air from a scorching fire. “Raven.” The breathy whisper that left Crimson’s throat broke the Psy. She stood and ran into Crimson’s arms flinging her hands into the hair at the nape of his neck as she melted into him. He dipped his head to capture her lips but stopped before he touched them. The pleading look he sent his brothers over her head spoke volumes. “I can’t – even her, I can’t do it.” “She has more evil in her than any one in hell Crimson.” Cyan spoke his eyes sad. “I know but…” He shook his head, his shoulders tense. “She will kill Sorcha if you don’t.” Cyan tried again. “Give the bitch to me.” Sable grabbed Raven’s arm pulling her away from Crimson and spinning her into his arms. She mewed and instantly melted against Sable. He looked at his brothers then spoke. “Sometimes we have to do what we don’t want to.” He dipped his head and rubbed his lips across Ravens. The Psy woman opened herself to Sable, knowing that she was sealing her fate. She didn’t care. All that mattered was this kiss and this man. Sable opened his mouth deepening the kiss. His hair blasted up from him as he sucked Raven’s life force out with a kiss. He hated doing this. He had promised himself that he would never feed like this again. But it was the only way they were going to stop Raven, she had grown too powerful and Sorcha – the only one with a hope of killing her – couldn’t do it, she would kill her own daughter if she tried. Sable felt the last of Raven’s life flow into his body as she died. He opened his arms dropping the husk of the once powerful Psy to the ground. He felt like he needed a two day shower in scalding water. Sable looked up and saw the thanks in Crimson’s eyes. That made him feel a little better. He would do anything to spare his brothers the kind of pain he lived with daily. “Um, can you dudes tone down the mojo please? Sorcha’s not doing so well.” Marcus looked at the brothers while he held the trembling Sorcha close to his chest. Crimson smiled sheepishly. “Sorry.” He cut the power to his abilities and was relieved when Sable and Cyan followed his example. Sometimes going Incubus could get out of control. “Sorcha.” Marcus had to repeat her name twice before she heard him. She looked up at him tears streaming down her face. “Can I look now?” He pulled her hands away from her ears. “Yeah, they’re done with the sex magic.” Sorcha spun and glared at the brothers. “Don’t ever.” She hissed the words. “Do that to me again.” “I’m sorry Sorcha, but it was necessary, I didn’t want you to risk your baby.” Sorcha drew a breath to berate them further, but Sable’s words took the spunk right out of her fight. “Thank you.” She said instead. His smile warmly. Sorcha went to Kyle he was still unconscious on the floor. “Can we take Kyle home now? I want to get him to Jesse before he looses any more blood.” “We just need to find Fenn, he’s not here.” Marcus looked around the chose of dead demons. “I’m going to go and look around.” He walked out the room. “Hurry up.” Sorcha called after him. His laughter drifted back to her with the words. “Bossy much?” Sorcha pulled Kyle’s head into her lap and waited - impatient to get him home. “Sable.” “Yes?” He knelt on the floor next to her. “You seem to know a little about the whole spirit cat thing.” “Yes, I have studied the phenomenon.” “Is the baby – I mean, does she have a spirit cat? Is that the cub we saw?” Sable shook his head. “No. Your daughter is lycos, she sent her cat out to help you. But because she is still a fetus it was in spirit form and not her real leopard form.” “Thank you Sable, that does explain a few things.” Sorcha had been so shocked when the cub had first appeared she hadn’t really understood the implications. She was pregnant, and Kyle was her child’s father. Sorcha felt the smile that curved her lips. The thought made her feel ecstatic, until she realized the problem it presented. She stopped stroking Kyle’s hair. Even if she told him she wanted to be with him now, he’d think it was because she was pregnant, and not because she loved him. Damn it! How was she going to deal with this? She didn’t want Kyle doubting what she felt for him. “Please.” She cleared her throat and raised her eyes to the brothers. “Please don’t say anything to Kyle about the pregnancy yet.” “He wont hear it from us Sorcha.” Crimson assured her. “Thank you.” She looked down at the face of the man she loved. All she needed was a little time to figure out how she was going to convince him she’d loved him before she found out about their daughter. Marcus walked into the room with Fenn right behind him, but what made the others double take was the group of week looking people they were leading. “I went exploring when all of you decided to play incubus, and I found these people in stasis capsules on an upper floor.” Fenn kicked a demon corps out the way so that he could help a woman through to the others. As they walked past Raven’s body the woman stopped and spat on the dead Psy. “Filth!” She hissed. Sorcha gently put Kyle’s head down on the floor before she stood and embraced the woman. “Magera.” “Sorcha, thank the gods, we thought we would never be freed.” “I’m sorry it took us so long.” “No child.” The older woman assured her. “We are just grateful you came. All we want to do now is return home.” “I’ll teleport you all home now.” “No, don’t worry. We may be week in body, but our minds are strong. I can get them home. I would have already if Fenn hadn’t told me you were here. We wanted to come and thank you first.” “It really isn’t necessary.” Sorcha was a bit flustered. “Yes it is. Thank you all.” Magera looked around the group. “Now we will return to our homes and loved ones.” There was a pulse of light and the Psy were gone. “Shall we go home too?” Fenn asked. Sorcha didn’t wait for him to ask twice, she teleported them home. “Why don’t you go have a shower and a nap Sorcha?” Jesse’s voice caused Sorcha’s head to snap up from the half doze that had dropped her chin to her chest. He was packing medical supplies into the trolley he had emptied earlier when he’d seen to Kyle’s injuries. “Sorry I am a bit on the tired side.” She smiled weakly and stretched. “You know Kyle’s going to be fine. So go have a nap and come back when you are a bit more awake. Maybe he’ll be awake then too.” Sorcha stood up, she knew Jesse had a point. He’d given her a once over after he’d seen to Kyle and every thing was fine with her and the baby, but Jesse had warned her that she’s be more tired than not for the next three months. So Sorcha left the infirmary and went and had her shower, maybe after the nap she’d figure out a way to tell Kyle that she loved him, and had for a while already. Kyle hurt all over, but at least he was on the mend. He draped his legs over the side of the infirmary bed trying to find the courage to stand up. He knew it was going to be painful, and the bandages wrapped around his leg and side were awkward. Jesse had been in earlier and told Kyle that he’d been the only one to sustain a serious injury. He’d also let Kyle know that he’d had to boot Sorcha out of the infirmary. Just thinking about that made Kyle smile again. Maybe there was hope for him and his stubborn Psy female after all. “It’s now or never.” He pulled a face expecting the same searing pain that had thrown him into unconsciousness, but was pleasantly surprised when all he felt was a twinge. A smile curved his lips. That was much better. “Hey you’re up and about.” Marcus pushed the door open. “You had us worried there for a bit. What’s with you and dying? Don’t you think you’ve done enough of that already?” He teased his friend, before pulling a chair closer and straddling it. “I agree, you’ve done plenty you need to stop trying that one out now.” Crimson chuckled as he moved past Marcus to get another chair. “Yeah – yeah. Give it a rest. It’s not my fault that psycho bitch decided to pick on me.” He joked, but he was eternally grateful that she hadn’t pulled her shit on Sorcha. He’d bleed till he had no blood left if it saved Sorcha having a paper cut. “Oh!” Marcus stood up and held out his hand to shake Kyle’s. “I came in here to offer you some congratulations.” “For?” Kyle looked puzzled. “Marcus don-” Crimson didn’t get to finish his sentence. “On being a daddy dude. You didn’t wait any time getting Sorcha pregnant did you?” Marcus laughed and Crimson groaned. “I’m… I’m going to be a father?” A slow smile of pure joy spread on Kyle’s face as he realized that Sorcha was carrying his baby. He didn’t even question how they knew. “Yeah it was a shock when that little cub went tearing into the battle. I don’t envy you trying to control that girl.” “Sorcha?” “No you dweeb, your daughter.” Marcus sat back down. Kyle’s face hurt from grinning, he was going to have a little girl. This day was only getting better. But why hadn’t Sorcha told him? He frowned. “She didn’t know until the battle.” Crimson answered as if he could read Kyle’s thought. Kyle relaxed - good, that meant that she hadn’t had a chance yet. He’d go find her now and pretend that he didn’t know. He was willing to bet she was dying to tell him. “Excuse me guys. I need to go find my woman.” Kyle left the room with a grin on his face. “God Marcus. You really don’t know when to shut up do you?” Crimson said in frustration as he got up. “What?” Marcus asked. “What did I do now?” “Sorcha asked us not to say anything.” Crimson threw over his shoulder as he walked out the room. “How the hell was I supposed to know that?” Marcus pulled a face. He’d really put his foot in it this time. |
