| 29. “All clear.” Thor lifted a booted foot, placed it on a rock, and frowned. “You sound disappointed.” Rage observed as he entered the cavern. “I am, I was hoping for a good fight, but it looks like they hightailed it out of here as soon as they could.” “I’m not going to say I told you so.” “You just did Rage.” Thor straightened up waiting for Rage to start something. “Before you two start bickering.” Gabriel interrupted them while he looked around at the Omega that had gathered around him. “Lets search this place properly, break off in groups of two and see if you can find anything that might give us a clue as to where Raven and her minions have disappeared too. They left in a hurry, and that is our advantage.” The Omega left to start searching. Gabriel had to admit he was frustrated with the outcome of the raid, though he hadn’t expected anything more. He knew that Raven would be gone. He should have trusted his instincts about her when he first met the bitch. Now it was too late. She’d nearly cost Sorcha and Kyle their lives, two powerful Omegas. That would have been a crippling blow to the Omega and the fight against the coming darkness of the prophecy. The weight of command sat heavily on Gabriel’s shoulders, he could not afford to make mistakes like that again. “I’ve found something!” Ross called from a cavern further down the natural passage in the cave. He strode back to the rest and handed Gabriel a book with a black cover. Gabe’s skin wanted to crawl just touching it, he knew immediately it had belonged to Raven. Pure evil had soaked into the cover and pages of the book. It was clear that whatever Raven had been, she was now one sick puppy. Gabriel opened the cover and glanced at the first page. The book was a journal of some sort, filled with nearly illegible scribbling. He peered down and the page as the words started to make sense to him. “This was Raven’s journal, it looks like she left it behind in the rush. It’s filled with mad thoughts but I think we should take it back and study it. Who knows what we’ll find in it.” “At least its something.” Rage agreed. Dante came into the cavern with a somber expression on his face. “I think you might want to see this.” Gabriel and the others followed the wolf as he led them down a winding passage that opened up into a large circular cavern. Gabriel walked over to the one object in the room. “This looks like a cryo-stasis capsule out of a movie. He bent closer to the capsule then let out a sigh. “They killed her.” Thor pushed past Gabe to look into the capsule. “This is just wrong.” He lifted the lid and bent down to pick up the young girl, she still had a dagger buried in her heart. Gently cradling the girls body Thor frowned at the two gods near him. “We are going to get this Raven bitch and we are going to kill her. Call me if you need me I’m taking this girl’s body to a place of rest.” With those words he vanished. “You’d think he’d be used to death.” Gabriel moved forward to close the lid of the capsule. “He is, but sometimes it still hits him hard, especially when its innocent death.” Rage looked down at the capsule with a frown. “For all his bluster and strength, Thor is a gentle soul. Things like this tend to make him want to go out and hurt something.” Gabriel nodded. “Understood.” Sorcha came awake with the feeling of being watched, and she wasn’t happy about it, she’d spent the day and a long night learning Kyle’s body as he learnt hers, a smile pulled up the corners of her mouth as she remembered Kyle making love to her until in the end, they both fell into an exhausted sleep. Sorcha was pretty sure she hadn’t been sleeping long when the feeling of being watched woke her. She tried to sit up, but realized she was entangled in Kyle, their limbs entwined and she was wrapped in his long hair. “Hmm?” He murmured still asleep. “I just need to sit up Kyle.” “No.” He pulled her closer, unwilling to let her out of his arms. “Please, I’ve been waiting you for you to waked up Sorcha.” A girl’s voice had both Omegas sitting up in bed. Sorcha grabbed the sheet and pulled it over her breasts as she became aware that she was naked, and there was someone else in the room. Her eyes widened when she saw the girl from her dreams. “You are a ghost.” She sat forward trying to decide if she was asleep and still dreaming. “Yes, Raven killed me when she realized I’d managed to break the sorcerer’s hold on me.” “You mean when you communicated with Sorcha.” Kyle’s deep voice right next to her made Sorcha startle. “You can hear her?” “And see her.” Kyle pulled Sorcha closer as if the revelation made him a little uneasy. “It doesn’t matter why. I came here because you have to help them Sorcha. The other Psy are being kept prisoner in stasis capsules.” The girl was distraught. “They can’t break his hold and he’s forcing them to do terrible things. They kill normals for energy to feed the hive and the sorcerer.” The girl spun to look at something behind her. “I need to go, I don’t want to be stuck on this plain. My name is Shera, please tell my parents I love them, and I’m sorry I wasn’t strong enough to get away. Help the others Sorcha they are in the Glade of Shadows…” Shera faded to nothingness right in front of them. Sorcha felt a tear slip down her face as she realized how much the young girl had given up to try and help the other Psy. Kyle tilted her chin and kissed the tear away. “Don’t cry Darlin’, we’ll get Raven for this I promise you, and for everything she’s ever done to you. Raven and any one who’s in on this with her.” He lowered his head and kissed the tear trail down her face soon capturing her lips in a kiss that made Sorcha forget there was a world outside the bedroom door. Sorcha reached for Kyle intending to pull him down and make sure the kiss led to more fun things when she felt him grin into their kiss. “Hmm Sorcha, who have thought you’d be a little nympho.” “Kyle!” She clouted him across the shoulder. “Damn woman, no need for violence, I wasn’t complaining, it was a compliment.” He raised himself up on his arms and stared down at her with a look that said he wasn’t intending on letting her out of bed any time soon, but before he could make good on the promise in his look there was a knock at the door. “Kyle?” Seth’s voice had Kyle rolling his eyes. “I remember your reactions when you were interrupted bro, don’t interrupt me now.” Seth laughed on the other side of the door, and Kyle had to dodge another blow from Sorcha. “Yeah you can beat me later, but Gabriel wants us all in the debriefing room, they found a journal in the caves that has some pretty scary shit in it.” “Yeah we have something to share with our esteemed leader as well.” “You and Sorcha are Nexus?” You could hear the smile in Seth’s voice. “Yeah we are, but that’s not what we need to share with Gabe. I’ll tell you just now.” “Okay, just hurry up. A quick shower, don’t stop to admire the scenery.” Seth chuckled. “Piss off Bitch.” Kyle laughed. “Anything you say Asshole.” Seth’s voice faded as he walked away from the door laughing. Sorcha slipped out under Kyle and stood with her hands on her hips glaring at him as if she wanted to strangle him. “What’s wrong babe?” He asked her still leaning up with one elbow on the bed. “Babe is a little pig, my name is Sorcha, you’d do well to get that right. And what the hell do you mean we’re a Nexus, and if we are a Nexus, how did you know and why the hell did you tell Seth before I knew?” “The Nexus prophecy is about pair….” Kyle started. “I know what a Nexus is Kyle. I cornered Selp and made her tell me. She told me all about Drew and Seth and how they are cosmically connected and meant to be together and never would have been able to fight it and all of that. I want to know how you know we are a Nexus.” Sorcha was standing there as naked as the day she was born and ranting at him, it was understandable that Kyle was a little distracted, so he didn’t really think when he answered her. “Um, I saw the blue energy in the cave when I was feeding you my power.” He answered absently still staring at Sorcha’s curves. “And you were planning on telling me this when?” “I’m telling you now?” He smiled at her with all the charm he could muster. “But you could tell Seth before you told me. What if I don’t want to be tied to you for eternity because some blue energy says we must be tied together.” The last part escaped Sorcha’s mouth, she hadn’t meant to say it, and she didn’t mean it, but she was pissed off. It was her life and she should have known, Kyle should have had the decency to tell her they were a Nexus if he knew it. Not blabbed it out to Seth the first chance he got. Kyle sat up straight at her words and leaned forward. “What do you mean you don’t want to me tied to me, you are, and there is no way around it.” The growl in his voice made Sorcha grind her teeth. “Where I come from Kyle there is such a thing as free will, and no one asked me what I thought of this. No one even asked me if I wanted it.” “So you’re telling me that now you’ve had some of me – you want to go out and try some others.” Sorcha felt her jaw drop and heat flare in her cheeks. “How dare you!” She spun and marched to the bathroom before he could even answer her. Sorcha slammed the door then slumped against it tears coursing down her face. How could he think that I would want anyone else? You pretty much told him you didn’t want to be with him – her internal voice answered her. But that’s not what I meant. Sorcha didn’t know how she was going to get out of this, or even if she wanted to. Kyle had just insinuated that she was a whore, wanting to test out other guys now that she’d discovered the pleasures of sex. Those words, even though he’d spoken them in anger, would not be easily forgiven or forgotten. Kyle sat on the bed and stared at the bathroom door as if he could burn a hole through it. Sorcha didn’t want to be with him. After everything they’d been through, with everything he felt for her. He’d given her his heart, completely without reservation and she’d just crushed it. Kyle felt his heart break, crumbling into little pieces. He had no luck with women. Not a drop. Veronica had caused his death, he got his body back gave his heart to Sorcha and she didn’t want it either. What the hell was he doing wrong? Veronica’s betrayal had been bad because of the pain it cause Seth in the end. Sorcha’s rejection was far worse. Kyle felt like he’d been vivisected. If that was the way she wanted it, fine, you couldn’t force someone to love you. No matter how much he wished he could do just that. |
