27.
Kyle was dying.  More than dying he was going to cease to exit completely.  There would be no hanging around in spirit form.  There would be no spirit form.  Not even the frustration of not being able to communicate with the others.  Only nothingness.
A smile curled his lips because it was worth it.  It didn’t matter that he wasn’t going to be around any more just as long as right here, and right now he could hear the heartbeat of the woman he loved get stronger.
The only things Kyle regretted were that he’d never told her while she was conscious how he felt about her, and that they had never made love.
Kyle heard the far off echoes of battle as he pored the last of his being into Sorcha.  Good.  Help was on the way he wouldn’t be leaving her here defenseless.  That had to be the cavalry he was hearing.
Khaish roared in Kyle’s mind, but he soothed the cat.  He let the sentin know that this was his choice and it was not a battle the sentin could come help him with.  Khaish quieted down allowing Kyle thoughts to calm him.  The cat would wait and see what happened to his Du’call.  Kyle asked Khaish to stay and watch over Sorcha for him, and the sentin agreed.  A small smile touched Kyle’s lips as he thanked his loyal companion.
Kyle looked down to where his hand rested on Sorcha’s forehead, and was surprised to see a blue energy arcing between his fingertips and Sorcha’s skin.   Seth had been right.  Sorcha and Kyle were a Nexus.  Well it was too late now.  Maybe some part of him would live on in her.  He bent forward and laid a ghostly kiss on her lips.
      “Goodbye Sorcha.”

Gabriel was the first to burst into the stone cavern that imprisoned Kyle and Sorcha.  He saw her lying on the ground, but he could only see the vaguest outline of Kyle.  Gabe knew instantly what was happening.  He threw his hands forward in an unnecessary physical motion, but one he made because he was new to the god powers.  He grabbed and flung Kyle’s last bit of energy where he needed it to go.  Then rushed forward bushing Raven’s field aside like cobwebs and knelt and picked Sorcha up.
“Have you got her?”  Thor asked as he came bounding into the cavern.
“Yes meet me at the compound.”  Gabriel disappeared with Sorcha in his arms.
Rage ran into the room.  “And?”  He asked Thor with a raised eyebrow.
“He got her.  Lets get to the compound I think Gabriel is still going to need our help.”
      Rage nodded “Let’s go.”
They would have to come back to the cavern to investigate when the worst of the crisis was over.  Rage was not happy about having to leave now.  He had a feeling they had the solution to the problems the mythos had had with the Hive at their fingertips and it was going to elude them because they had to leave.  They’d just have to hope they found what they needed when they came back.  He flashed himself to the compound.

Gabriel materialized in the infirmary, he was profoundly grateful to see Seth was in the infirmary talking to Jesse.
      “Seth.  Mausoleum.  Now!”  He barked.
Seth knew that tone.  He didn’t argue.  He took one look at Gabriel and bolted out the infirmary towards the kitchen, and out the back door.
“Jess, take her and check her over.  I don’t know what’s wrong with her or how she’s wounded, but I think it has something to do with an energy drain.”
Jesse didn’t waste time asking questions he took Sorcha’s limp body from Gabriel and moved into the passage leading to the exam rooms.
Gabriel turned and ran for the mausoleum.

Kyle couldn’t breath his chest was burning and he felt cold.  He gasped trying to draw oxygen into his body, but all he could taste was stale air, and since when had he needed oxygen?  He gasped again amazed at the wheezing horse quality of the sound.  He’s eyes wouldn’t open they felt weighted.  Kyle tried to sit up and smashed into some type of barrier about a foot above his head.
He was starting to panic because he could sense that he was in a tiny in-closed space.
Finally his eyes opened, but it didn’t help because where ever he was it was pitch black.  An unrelenting heavy darkness.
      Fight the panic Kyle.
He told himself to keep calm, and use his other senses to evaluate his surroundings.
Kyle raised his hands with difficulty his muscles felt heavy – different.  Wherever he was it was not in the form he was used too.  He shouldn’t be having conscious thought.  The last thing he remembered was pouring himself into Sorcha.
Kyle felt with his hands and touched something smooth and cool.  It felt like a heavy window pain.  Was he touching glass?
Kyle heard a door crash open, and abruptly there was light.  Light so bright his eyes began to burn.  Kyle squinted against the light as he heard booted feet pound down… stairs?
He was in the mausoleum, in his coffin in the mausoleum!
Kyle lost his fight against the panic.  The though of being trapped in a coffin, being trapped in the mausoleum again had him screaming hoarsely and pounding against the glass, but it did no good the glass was reinforced and Kyle had no leverage.
“Kyle cover your face!”  The command broke through the panic and Kyle raised his arms to cover his face as best he could.  He heard a massive crashing sound and the tinkling of glass shards as they fell over his body, but he could breath and the air was clean and sweet.  Kyle sucked in a huge lungfuls of it.  Hands were helping him sit up as Kyle squinted against the light.  He’d never been more grateful to see his brother and Gabriel.
“Sorcha!”  He asked in a horse voice.
“She’s safe Kyle.  I left her with Jesse.”  Gabriel told him.
“I need to see her.”  Kyle wouldn’t believe that she was safe till he saw it with his own eyes.
“Fine I want Jesse to check you out anyway.  This body hasn’t been used in over fifty years.”  Gabriel agreed as they helped Kyle get out of the glass coffin.
Kyle nodded and let them help him.  His muscles were stiff.
Then it sunk in he was in his body again.
      “You did it Gabe?”
“Yeah I got you back in your body.”  Gabriel smiled as they led him to the infirmary.
Thor walked through the open door of the Mausoleum.
“Gees, couldn’t you have lifted the lid?”  He was referring to the smashed coffin.
“I didn’t think of that.”  Seth admitted with a grimaced.
“Yeah and you should have been named Destructo-boy.  Give me some room.”
Thor stepped up to Kyle and laid a hand on his forehead.
“You poured just about everything you had into her didn’t you?”  He frowned.
“Netta said it was the only way to save her.”  Kyle admitted sagging in Gabriel’s hold.
“Netta was right.  You saved her life Kyle.  Now hold still so I can replace some of what you shared with Sorcha.”
Kyle felt warmth spread through his limbs as the god of thunder fed energy into him.  He felt the effect immediately he felt strong and vital like he could move mountains.
“Well I wouldn’t try moving mountains,” Thor replied after reading the though  “but you will never be a normal Lycos again.  I’ve just shared a small part of my power with you.  So expect some abilities you didn’t have before.”
Then Thor stepped back and grinned.
“I was tempted to not tell you and just watch you get the shit shocked out of you when you figured out you could do things you shouldn’t be able to, but I’ve got enough people after a piece of my ass.  Rage is with Sorcha, giving her some of his energy.  You’ll both be fine.”
Kyle didn’t know how to thank the god.
“No need.”  Thor said reading Kyle’s mind again.  “But when I come for your first born…”
Thor saw the expression on Kyle’s face and burst out laughing holding his sides as the mirth coursed through him.
“I was kidding Kyle.  I like practicing to making babies.  I don’t like looking after the pink feet.  You can keep your children.”
“Thor give the guy a break, he’d just been resurrected.”  Gabe grumped at the god.
“What would the fun in that be?  By the way we need to discus going back to that cave system.”
“Sure, lets go to the debriefing room it will be easier to formulate some plans there.” Gabriel suggested.
“I’m going to see Sorcha.”  Kyle straightened feeling strong again and moved past Thor.  He turned back and spoke to the god.
“Thanks Thor, and you Gabriel.  I really do appreciate it.” The turned and left the mausoleum.  He was planning on never setting foot in the place again.

Kyle walked into the room Jesse had put Sorcha in and felt his chest unclench.  He knew she was alive now.
“How is she?”  Kyle asked Jesse.
Jesse turned with the words on his lips but stopped to gasp as he saw Kyle in his own body, and still dressed in the clothes they’d buried him in.
“You are back in your body.”
“And you are the king of obvious Jess.  How is she?”
Jesse stumbled over his reply but managed to answer.  “She’s fine, just sleeping.  She’s going to need some rest.  Sorcha should wake up in about three hours or so. I’ve given her something to make sure she stays asleep.”
Kyle nodded.  “Thanks Jess.”  Then he turned to the dark haired man standing against the wall.
“You must be Rage.”  Kyle held out his hand to greet the god.  “Thank you for helping us.”
“My pleasure.”  Rage took Kyle’s offered hand.  “I’m glad I could help.”
“Kyle come sit so I can make sure you are okay.”  Jesse motioned to a chair as he took out his stethoscope.
“I’m fine.”  Kyle tried to dismiss the angel.
“Sit your ass down.”  Jesse growled.
Kyle sighed, it felt good to do that and really get air into his lungs.  He went and sat facing the bed so Jess could examine him.
A few minutes later Jesse stepped back.  “You are in perfect health.  The only complaint I have is that you stink.”
“Thanks Jess lets see how fresh you smell after fifty years in a coffin.”
“Yeah, but that doesn’t change the fact that you smell like moldy bread.  Why don’t you go shower.”
“No I want to stay by Sorcha.”
“It’s an order Kyle.  Do you want to offend Sorcha’s sinuses the minute she wakes up?  Go shower I’ll call you if she wakes up before you get back.” Jesse put down his stethoscope and pointed at the door.
      “You promise?”
      “Go shower now.”

Sorcha came awake slowly, she felt a deep pain in her chest that had nothing to do with a wound, and then she remembered.  Her last memory was of Kyle transforming, and unbearable pain as all her energy was drawn out of her for the change.  Suddenly Sorcha knew where the pain came from.  If she was alive - Kyle wasn’t.  She felt her throat tighten and tears burn her eyes.  No it can’t be.  She tried to reassure herself that Kyle must be fine but she couldn’t lie to herself.  In her heart she knew he was gone.  There was no way he could have poured enough power into her to keep her alive and not faded himself.
Sorcha opened her eyes and looked around the room.  She was in the infirmary at the compound.  So someone had rescued her.  She pulled her self into a sitting position.
“Easy now, you will probably make yourself dizzy if you try and do that too fast.”  A deep voice drew Sorcha’s eye.  She knew instantly who he was and that he’d given her power from himself so that she would heal and be alert faster.  She could feel part of Rage inside her adding to her already powerful abilities.
“Thank you Ra’gerious.”  She said quietly feeling the need to be formal with the god from the Nameless.
“It’s a pleasure.   I’m just glad you are okay now.”
It was on the tip of Sorcha’s tongue to ask what had happened to Kyle but she stopped herself afraid that hearing Kyle was gone would make it real to her.
“I’d like to go to my room now I want to shower and get the feel of that place off my skin.”  What she didn’t say was that she wanted a place she could cry without an audience.
“I don’t think Jesse wants you to leave the infirmary yet, but I think there is a shower in the bathroom down the hall.”
That would be fine just as long as she could go and cry.  Sorcha didn’t think she’d loved Kyle, but she had cared for him.
You are lying to yourself, you did love him and you don’t want to admit it because loosing him will be even more difficult.
Sorcha stomped her mental voice down.  No she hadn’t loved Kyle, and now she’d never get the chance to fall for him.
