26.
Raven palled for a moment but then started laughing again as Kyle crashed into an invisible barrier.  He crumpled against it and cursed.
“Don’t make the mistake of thinking you are safe Raven. When I get out here I will kill you.”  Kyle’s voice leaked venom making it clear that it would not be a pain free death.
“No you wont.  I’m too powerful, and you won’t get out of that cell alive.  I’m going to take Sorcha’s power, and there is nothing you can do about it.”  Raven looked him up and down.  “However, the offer for a couple of hours of fun is still on the table if you’d like to come and play.”
“Sure.” Kyle smiled, but the expression was enough to put fear into Death’s heart.
“Let me out and I’ll play with you, like a cat plays with a mouse before it bites off the mouse’s head.”
She laughed again.  “Your loss big boy, I could have showed you some fun.”  She looked him over from head to toe with a smirk on her face.  “I still could.”
“Fuck off Raven.”  Sorcha gasped out.  She’d come around and was trying to sit up.
Kyle turned his back on Raven, and bent to help Sorcha.
“Don’t you dare turn your back on me, and pay attention to her.”  Raven shrieked at Kyle, and clenched her fist. “Feel your animal Omega.”
Kyle groaned and sunk to his knees.
      Not now.
He’d been able to keep his cat under control for fifty years, he hadn’t been forced into a change once, but now with a clenching of her fist Raven had woken the beast and it was roaring to be let out.
Kyle fought the transformation with everything he had.  He wanted to be in human form now, and his cat had always been hard from him to control when he’d been alive.
He looked down at his hand, and saw it had transformed into a leopards paw with claws fully extended.
Kyle’s eyes snapped to Sorcha when he heard her gasp.  Her skin was as white as new snow.
“Kyle it’s taking too much… Stop the transformation.”  She gasped out.
He understood immediately that his shifting was drawing too much power from Sorcha, and this was the thing that Netta had warned them about.
Kyle fought harder, doing what ever he could to keep himself in human form.  He knew deep down that changing to his leopard form would probably kill Sorcha.  She screamed and Kyle gasped as he felt the power jerk inside him.
Raven just stood there and laughed.
“You’re killing her.”  He gasped out.
“No I’m not, I’m not doing anything to her.  It’s you I’m forcing to change.  Try not to be so stupid.  I like my meat to have a bit of brains.”
Raven obviously didn’t realize that Sorcha’s walker abilities kept Kyle corporeal, she probably didn’t even realize he was a ghost.
Raven tilted her head as if she was listening to something.
“I’ll be back Omega.  For now I have to leave my new toys and go see what the imbecile wants.”  She turned and walked out the room.
The impetus to transform was still burning through Kyle’s veins.  Raven hadn’t lifted the power she was wielding over his cat form.
He fought it but the more he fought it the more Sorcha was being drained, Kyle made the decision to let his cat form out, and do it as fast as possible.  He suspected that by fighting the transformation he was making the drain worse.
Kyle’s leopard form burst from his skin, and he roared into the echoing vaults of the cave.
Sorcha seemed to be breathing easier now, but he was going to have to shift back to human form to help her.  Kyle didn’t know if Sorcha could survive another shift.  He paced around the small stone room trying to think of another way to change form and not draw any more power from Sorcha.
Maybe he could find a way out.  He looked around again.  They were in a small alcove in the stone the rest of the room wasn’t very big but he couldn’t even get to that because the force field Raven had put in place was still a barrier he could not cross.  With nothing but smooth stone around them Kyle could see no way for them to escape.
If he changed fast it should take less energy or at least minimize the effect on Sorcha.  Kyle was struggling to stay rational, but his cat was furious.   Sorcha was in danger and all the cat wanted to do was go and kill those who’d put her in danger.  If he was going to decide Kyle needed to do it soon the leopard would not let him stay in control much longer.  He moved back to her rubbing her cold skin with his face.  Hoping the tickling of the leopard’s whiskers might wake her.
Kyle roared again when Sorcha didn’t stir.  It was now or never.  Kyle clenched his will and forced the fastest transformation of his existence.  Within seconds he’d flowed back to his human form.
He immediately crouched down next to Sorcha.  Her breathing was shallow and it was obvious that it had been too much – she was dying.
Kyle felt terror clench his chest.  She couldn’t die.  She wasn’t allowed to leave him.  He loved her.

Gabriel came awake with a pounding on his door.  Damn it he had been sleeping peacefully for the first time in years.  Thor pushed the door open and stuck his head into the room Gabriel had been assigned while he stayed with Rage in the home of the Nameless.
“We’ve got trouble so it’s time to leave Neverland.”
Gabriel sat up with a frown.  “What’s going on?”
“I’ll brief you and Rage at the same time so get your ass up.”
Gabriel got up and reached for his pants.
“Damn Gabe.  Couldn’t you have waited till I left the room?  I did not need to see your naked ass.”  Thor bitched as he pulled the door closed.
“You told me to hurry up.”  Gabriel yelled at the closed door and laughed.
“Yeah I did, but I didn’t think I’d get that view, don’t worry I know a harpy who’s itching to scratch my eyes out.  So if it gets too much I’ll pay her a visit.  Meet me in Rage’s room.” Thor moved down the passage laughing.
A few minutes later he walked into Rage’s room. The place was done up in deep burgundy from the satin sheets on the bed to the upholstery of the furniture.  Black curtains framed a window.  The big picture window looked out over a mountain valley.  Rage sat in an overstuffed armchair.  “About time you got here.” He said in way of greeting when Gabriel walked in.
“Gabe have a seat and don’t lift your ass till I’m done talking.”  Thor pointed at a couch.  Gabriel dutifully sat down.
“Raven has gone rogue and she took Sorcha.  Kyle has gone after her.”  Thor told them.
“What?”  Gabriel jumped up.  “I’ve got to go.”
“Sit!”  Thor roared, and pointed at the couch.  Then more gently when Gabriel sat down again.  “We will all go just as soon as we know what we are planning.”
      He took a breath.
“They are not my people, so I can’t trace after them.  You are going to have to concentrate and find them because we can’t go on a rescue mission if we don’t know where they are.”
      “How do I do that?”
“Alright I’ll take you through step by step.”  Between Thor and Rage they taught Gabriel to feel for the individual signatures of his people.

Kyle pulled Sorcha closer to his chest.  She was dying and he didn’t know what to do for her.  He’d never felt more frustrated in is life.
He started talking to her – to himself.  It didn’t matter he just couldn’t face the fact that she was dying in his arms.
“Sorcha… baby.  You can’t die on me we haven’t made love yet, and I made you a promise remember.  You can’t leave me please…  Sorcha.”
He pulled her closer, Kyle was on the point of tears.  He’d tried taking them out there but he didn’t have the power and Sorcha had none to spare.
Kyle held Sorcha close to him and begged. “God please, don’t take her from me.”  “Kyle?  Is that you?”  A voice filled the stone room.
Kyle jerked and growled. “Who is that?”
“Kyle it’s Netta, are you touching Sorcha’s brooch?”
He looked down, the brooch Sorcha usually wore pinned to her shirt was resting against the skin of his chest.
“Netta please you have to help me.  Sorcha’s dying.”  He explained to Netta what had happened.
“There is only one way to possibly save her Kyle.”  Netta’s voice was sad when she spoke.
“Tell me what it is before its too late.”
“Kyle… the only way to save her is to allow yourself to fade.  Feed her your power, but you will die.  Completely – there will be nothing left of you.  Not even your ghost.”

“I think I’ve found them.”  Gabriel sat on the couch with his eyes closed and his brow furrowed in concentration.  “I can feel Kyle and Sorcha, but its very feint.”
“Good you have to take us as close to them as you can.”  Rage stood up and laid a hand on Gabriel’s shoulder.  Thor checked to see if his hammer was where it always was and stepped forward to put his hand on Gabriel’s other shoulder.
“Ready when you are.”  He told Gabriel.
Gabe nodded and closed his eyes focusing totally on Kyle and Sorcha.  He felt the world compress and expand around him.  When he opened his eyes they were inside of a cave system.
Without warning a group of Hive materialized around them in a circle.
Thor whooped.  “Hell yeah!  I’ve been itching for a good fight.”  He pulled his hammer from the loop on his belt.  Bring it you ugly mothers.”  Thor waded into the Hive swinging his hammer and shouting war cries.
Rage looked at Gabriel raised and brow then grinned.  “Lets go get your people.”
Gabriel was praying that they were in time to save Kyle and Sorcha, now that he was aware of them he could feel Sorcha’s essence fading.  They had to get to them fast he followed after Thor.

There was no way that Kyle would let Sorcha die.  He would feed her his last bit of power.  Kyle would rather fade out of existence completely than let Sorcha die.  So he listened quietly as Netta told him what to do.
“Fine, that is what I will do then.  Netta can you do me a favor?”
“Yes Kyle. What would you have me do for you?”
“Please tell her I love her.”  His voice held rock steady, but inside he was cursing.  He wanted to tell her he loved her himself.
      “Yes Kyle.”
He could hear Netta’s voice break.  This whole situation was very painful for the Psy.
      “Goodbye Netta.”
“Goodbye Kyle, I am proud to have known you even for such a short time.”
Kyle lay Sorcha gently down on the stone floor of the cave breaking the connection between his skin and the brooch.  He didn’t want to drop her as he lost his corporeal form.  He bent his head down and brush his lips over hers.
“I love you Sorcha, please fight now.  You have to survive this.”
Kyle lay his hands on her forehead and started pushing his power into her.  He felt his cat roar to the front and used its power to feed Sorcha as well.  It didn’t take long before Kyle realized he wasn’t solid anymore.  He was in spirit form even though he had his hands on Sorcha.
He started to feel week, and dizzy, but he could see that Sorcha’s breathing had improved her heartbeat was stronger too.  Kyle smiled, it was worth it just to hear her heart beat strongly.
