| 19. Seth found Kyle under a tree in the back grounds of the compound staring moodily at the mausoleum. Kyle sat with his knees drawn up, his folded arms resting on them and his chin on his arms. His hair spread around him in a pool lying on the dirt under the tree. Seth sat down on his haunches next to Kyle. “What’s biting your ass?” “What makes you think something is biting my ass?” Kyle didn’t move his eyes from the mausoleum. It has been a matter of time before someone found him, but all he wanted right now was to be left to his hopeless situation and his depro mood. Seth snorted. “Let me count it off. One-” Seth held up his thumb. “You are sitting in the dirt, staring at the building that houses your corpse.” Seth lifted his pointer finger continuing his count. “Two – You wanted to rip Darius to shreds for what – for him at least – was a normal reaction to Marcus’s big mouth.” Seth raised his middle finger. “Three – you didn’t sit anywhere near Sorcha in the meeting, but you are still radiating jealousy, and the list could carry on. Now, are you going to keep on trying to bull-shit me or are you going to come clean?” Seth sat down flat and waited for his brother to speak. Kyle turned his head and looked at Seth. “I nearly made love to Sorcha.” Seth rolled his eyes. “Have you ever heard of easing into a subject Kyle, do you always have to drop a bomb on me?” “You asked.” Kyle turned to look at the mausoleum again. “Fine, yeah, I asked. Why nearly?” “I remembered she’s a virgin.” “So?” Seth was getting a headache, getting this out of Kyle was like trying to pull out his teeth with a pliers. “So. She doesn’t want to loose it to a ghost remember!” Kyle hissed in frustration. Couldn’t Seth just go away and quit reminding Kyle what a crap situation he’d gotten himself into. “And now she’s so pissed at me she’s not even speaking to me, and I don’t blame her.” “Start at the beginning, and tell me what happened, and try not to grose me out okay.” Kyle sighed, but told Seth what happened at the waterfall. When he finished Seth was quiet for so long Kyle turned to look at him. Seth was starting at Kyle with a look of utter astonishment etched on his face. “You just left her there?” “Yeah I told you why.” “You remembered she’s a virgin and had a sudden attack of conscious and left her there without explaining.” “Yeah, so?” “God Kyle, you used to be so good with women, then you died and became a moron.” “For god sake Seth, do you honestly have to say things like that to me? I am your brother after all.” Seth snorted. “Yeah, and that’s exactly why I get to tell you when you are being a stupid dip-shit. Where has all your finesse gone?” “Just what is your fucking problem?” Kyle got pissed. “She doesn’t know you know!” Seth said the words slowly and clearly. Kyle was about to rip into Seth when the comment sunk in. His eyes widened. “Oh. Fuck!” “Yeah.” Seth agreed. “All Sorcha experienced was you starting something then changing your mind. She has no idea you were trying to do her a favor, in her eyes you rejected her.” How could he have been such an idiot! Kyle was amazed that he hadn’t realized this sooner. There was no way Sorcha could know, she hadn’t heard his conversation with Raven. He had to fix this. He got up and vanished without even thanking Seth. “Yeah you’re welcome.” Seth grinned when Kyle disappeared. Kyle appeared in Sorcha’s room. No it was their room. He smiled when he saw how much the place had changed. Lots of bits and pieces obviously belonging to Sorcha had been added. She was making their room her new home. The thought sent a warm feeling through Kyle. She was sitting on the couch watching TV so she didn’t hear him. Kyle concentrated and switched off the TV. Sorcha shook the remote, muttered something then tried to put the TV on again. Kyle switched it right back off. “Four-Five-Six.” She hissed. “Don’t put it on again, we need to talk.” Sorcha spun to see Kyle behind her. “Go away Kyle, I’ve got nothing to say to you.” “I know.” “Great, then go away.” Sorcha lifted a brow waiting for him to leave. “No, I meant, I know you are a virgin.” Sorcha gasped and jumped up. “How could you possibly know that?” “Raven told me, she was gloating that she’d taken every man you’ve ever shown an interest in.” Oh god, her humiliation was complete. So that’s why Kyle didn’t want her, he didn’t want to waste time with someone who wasn’t experienced. “Don’t.” Kyle spoke softly. “Don’t what?” “Don’t go inventing new reasons why I’m an ass. I don’t need any I’m enough of an ass.” Sorcha snorted but said nothing. Kyle walked around the couch to get nearer to her. “I know why you don’t want to make love to me.” Kyle had to hold up a hand to stop her from speaking. “Let me finish, I want you to understand me completely, no more of this half ass confusion shit.” Sorcha nodded. “I want you Sorcha! I want you so badly I can’t think straight.” Sorcha felt her stomach summersault and her pulse speed up. Oh sweet Jesus those were beautiful words. “But I’m not going to touch you.” Okay, he must be hiding a sledgehammer behind his back, because he’d just hit her with one. “I know you don’t want to loose your virginity to a ghost, I don’t blame you, shit I agree with you. I wouldn’t want to if it were me.” “Kyle…” “I asked you to let me finish.” “And I will but I want to say something first!” He nodded staying quiet to hear her out. “When we were at the waterfall…” Sorcha cleared her throat embarrassed by the subject and heated by the memories. “I decided it doesn’t matter anymore. It’s just a membrane Kyle. I want my first experience to be with you, and I don’t care if you’re a ghost.” Kyle groaned closing his eyes and begged whoever was listening for a little will power, just a little, if he didn’t get help he was going to take Sorcha and make love to her all night. He took a breath of air, even though he didn’t need it, and expelled it again. “No.” There was the sledgehammer again, god the man was going to kill her. “I want to give you everything of myself. I’m going to have a beating heart when I make love you Sorcha.” “How?” “That doesn’t matter, what matters is that I will be flesh and blood. When I am…” He ran a hand through his hair, stalling so he could find the right words to say what he was about to say. “I don’t just want to be your first Sorcha… I want to be your only.” Dante pulled the door of the shop open to the tinkling of bells, and walked into the herb shop scanning the room for Murdock as the Marcus and Crimson followed him in. “Dante me boy, good to see ye again.” Murdock’s Irish lilt floated across the room. “Hey Murdock.” Dante greeted the tiny man as he came out from behind the counter. “Brought you a present.” Dante handed over the Kissanthiem wrapped in brown paper. “Ah, you’ve managed to get it then? That’ll be fantastic news.” “You can phone your customer, but we will be waiting to see who comes to buy the herb.” Crimson spoke. “Certainly, Certainly.” Murdock agreed then looked up. He palled as he stared into Crimson’s face. “I know ye. I know who ye are.” The little man said in a shaking voice. “Crimson is with us.” Dante told Murdock. “He’d never hurt you.” “Oh Aye, I know he changed his ways but the Flame Lord will always be a fearful creature.” “Just what did you do to be so bad ass Crim, and can you do the same for my rep?” Marcus raised a brow, he was starting to get very curious. Crimson kept eliciting all kinds of strange reactions from mythos and demons and right about now Marcus was starting to have some suspicions. . Murdock shuddered. “Rather ye not know, ‘tis glad I am to know he’s on our side of this little conflict.” Crimson raised a brow and gave the little man a half smile. Then Crimson turned towards the shelves and started picking up items and inspecting them. “I’ll just go make that call then.” Murdock came back a few minutes later. “He’s overjoyed that I have the herb he said he’d be sending someone by to get it soon.” “Sending someone? Not coming himself?” Crimson asked “Crap.” Dante cursed. This was not good, the whole point of getting the Kissanthiem was for their suspect to come and fetch it. “Just our damn luck. Seth’s gonna throw a hissy!” “I hate to point this out.” Crimson said with a smile. “But you do realize we could tail him.” “You sound like a bad detective movie.” Marcus couldn’t help but grin as he teased Crimson. “You’re just saying that cause you didn’t think of it.” Dante pointed out. “Hey, you’re supposed to be on my side.” Dante shrugged. “You want to be a dufus dude, what can I do.” “You didn’t think of it either.” “Yeah, but I’m hot and tough I don’t need brains.” “What am I then?” “Would you two shut up before the bad guys get here and we are still debating who’d be a good model and who’s got the better equipment.” Crimson laughed. “Just for the record – I do.” Marcus grinned knowing he’d beat Dante to that one. Dante opened his mouth to debate that but Crimson gave him a look. “Okay, I’ll shut up.” “Lets go wait outside in the shadows. That way we’ll know when the delivery boy gets here.” They said goodbyes to Murdock and Crimson raised the hood of his cloak. The tinkling of the door sounded as they left the shop. Crimson and Marcus stood deep in the shadows, Dante waited in the car with the engine running. Within a half an hour a car pulled up to the front of Murdock’s shop. A man in a wearing a hoddy got out the car and ran to the door of the shop. “Crim that’s an idea, we’ll get you a big hoody, then you can stop wearing that getup.” Marcus spoke softly trying to get a better look at the guy. “Maybe.” Crimson stepped forward and peered through the window. The light in the shop made it easy to see into. He watched as Murdock handed over the brown paper wrapped bundle of Kissanthiem. “That’s our guy. Lets get to the car.” Crimson turned to the car wanting to be ready when the delivery boy came out. Marcus was right behind him so they were waiting when the man came out the shop again. Dante waited for the other car to pull off before putting the car in gear and pulling into the street behind it. “Careful now, we don’t want him to know we are following him.” Marcus warned. “Marcus why don’t you just bite me! I know what I’m doing.” “No thanks, I prefer the people I bite to be female.” Dante took his hand of the steering wheel to raise his middle finger in Marcus’s direction. “He’s turning right.” Crimson pointed out. “I can see that Crim.” “God Dante, you got PMS or something?” Marcus laughed. “I’m going to beat you when we get back to the compound” Dante warned. “You’re welcome to try.” Marcus sat back in his chair and watched the street lights flash past the window of the car. |
