12. Cole rested his back against the raised portion on the bed as he told the others what had happened to him and Bastien. “There were about ten of them, weird creatures, I’ve never seen anything like them before.” He plucked at the wide bandage around his upper thigh, the blade had nicked an artery, if it hadn’t been for his Lycos healing abilities Cole would have exsanguinated long before he could get himself and his mortally wounded brother to Jesse. Getting to Jess had been his only option, the compound was much closer than wolf central. “Hooded in gray robes, with a sickly looking yellow glow?” Kyle asked from the stool he’d planted himself on. He was trying to keep out the way as Sorcha and Jesse worked on Bastien. “Yeah, how did you know?” Cole looked surprised. “We fought the same type of nasties tonight.” Seth replied. “Was a tough fight, we would have taken more damage if we hadn’t had some help from a mythos I’ve never seen before. Have you heard of Sin?” Cole’s dark eyes flashed with mirth. “Do it every day.” He was more relaxed now, Bastien would be fine – it had been close, but the wolves had come and the Lycos of the compound had added their considerable strength and the energy to help Jess get Bastien’s wounds sorted. It would take him a while to recover completely, but he wasn’t going to die. Seth grinned. “You and me both. But I’m talking about a blonde guy, braids down his temples. Moves like anti-gravity?” “You know.” Cole was thoughtful for a moment. “I’ve got some wolves patrolling the area around wolf central, and they have reported the occasions run in with a guy that moves like he’s got wings. So that is Sin? He’s helped my wolves more than once but no one has managed to even get a name so far. He always vaults off before they can.” “Yeah someone needs to pin him down and find out what his deal is.” Ross spoke from the chair he’d moved to so they could see to Cole. “He’s got angelic abilities, that’s for sure, but he claims to not know what he is. He’s got me curious, and the cat in me wants to know.” “We should run into him again.” Seth shifted so Sorcha could get past him to reach into the cabinet for some gauze. “I think the Omega need to start patrolling the area.” “Count the wolves in, these robed things are scary, and it wouldn’t be a bad idea for regular patrols, we might get lucky and scoop some info while we are at it.” Cole nodded. “There are a few mythos here that would help if you liked Seth, it doesn’t just have to be the Omega. “Excellent. I’ll put a call out for volunteers. Back to what happened Cole?” The wolf shrugged. “Bastien and I had stopped at Tommy’s, Bas needed to check on a beer shipment for Fiends, when we came out they were waiting. They didn’t make a sound, it was freaking spooky. We were loosing – honestly we as good as dead, and then they just disappeared. As if they’d never been there.” “I think the first question we have to ask is – what are they?” Sorcha went over to the basin to wash her hands before checking on Bastien again. “And what do they want with Sorcha” Kyle added in a dark voice. “That, I think, is the question of the day. Along with how the hell are you suddenly visible to everyone.” Seth shook his head. “I don’t know, but it’s a good thing, I think Sorcha was getting sick of me having to touch her the whole time so I could communicate.” Kyle smiled. Sorcha almost snorted, that was debatable. She kinda liked Kyle having to touch her the whole time. Seth walked up the stairs and turned right, heading for Darius’s room. He knocked on the door, then pushed it open when Darius called out for him to come in. The werelion sat on the floor his hands buried in his hair, his back against the unmade bed. The room looked like a tornado had torn through it. Seth hooked a chair and pulled it closer so he could sit down. “How you doing Dar?” The werelion tilted his head and peered through the mess of his hair at Seth. “My head is a bad place Seth.” His voice was a growl as if he hadn’t used it in a while. “I know Dar, I know it’s got to be hard for…” “You know fuck all.” Darius barked. “You got your happy ever after. Mine was taken from me.” Seth took a deep breath, Darius was right, he got to be with Drew, Namara had moved to another plane. Leaving Darius behind. “Okay, so I don’t know, but I can guess. I just have to think that Drew might be taken and I get an idea of what you’re going through.” Darius ignored that and sunk his head back into his hands, his foot tapping an impatient beat on the floor, he just wanted to be left alone. “Look Dar, I know this is tough for you, but you need to get out of the funk you are living in, I need you – no – we need you to fucking man up and start doing your job again.” It was a rough thing to say but Seth had a feeling the only way he was going to get through to Darius was to be an asshole. He half expected Darius to come up swinging so he was surprised when the werelion spoke softly instead. “I have a sister, did you know that? Back home in South Africa. I didn’t know I had a sister. Got a call from Slade the other day seems my mother was alive after all, alive and hiding out with the child she decided to keep. So now I have to go home and meet my sister and fuck me but I don’t want to.” Darius stood in one fluid movement and walked over to the window, staring out at the black night as if it held the answers to his problems. “What do you want Seth. I’m an Omega, I’ll do what you need me to do.” “I need you to come with us and help us find this.” Seth wadded up and tossed the photostat page towards Darius, the Lycos turned and caught the paper. He smoothed it open and read. “Fucking Hell!” Darius hissed. “You know the Lycos that is in charge of that area?” Darius looked up his blue eyes flashing. “He’s my cousin, and the Lycos that told me to come home and meet my sister. This territory is Slade’s.” Sorcha stepped out of the infirmary, completely exhausted, it was only ten pm, but it felt like years had past since she’d teleported the Omega home. All she wanted to do was crawl into her bed and sleep forever. Kyle had left a few minutes earlier to go get Jesse a cup of coffee. The angel was barely standing he was so drained from the work he’d done tonight. The wolves had left a half an hour earlier and the rest of the Lycos in the compound where sending the energy they could spare. Not that much was needed anymore, the work was done for now, even though Bastien was still unconscious Jesse said he needed to sleep and he’d be fine. So Sorcha could safely slip away before Kyle got back and tried to resume their interrupted discussion. She was just about to go around the bottom steps of the landing when she heard Kyle’s voice. “She’s busy.” “I’m sure she is, but I have been asked by the counsel to come and measure her progress.” Raven’s voice was syrup sweet as she answered Kyle. Sorcha stood still hardly daring to breath. Raven was talking to Kyle and the mere though had ice running through her veins. The feeling got infinitely worse with Raven’s next words. “But I could put the meeting off for a while if you aren’t busy. I think we could spend an enjoyable couple of hours together.” Oh no she didn’t! Raven had just offered herself to Kyle. Sorcha’s blood went from ice to lava. No, no no, the word repeated it self in her head over and over. Raven would get Kyle. There was no way he’d resist the petite dark beauty. Sorcha felt like throwing up, her heart pounded in her chest and traveled up and down her throat with ever thump. Why was this such a problem, Sorcha should be used to this already, Kyle wouldn’t be the first man that she’d liked that had been stolen from her by Raven. Hell who was she trying to fool, this was far worse than anything Raven had ever done to her before, but what was she going to do about it? The answer was – nothing, there was nothing she could do, and Kyle was a grown man, if he wanted to be with Raven, Sorcha sure as hell wasn’t going to stop him. You can’t hold something that wants to run. “I beg your pardon?” Kyle asked in complete amazement. “We didn’t meet the last time I was here, I would have remember someone as good looking as you. I’d really like to get to know you a bit better.” Raven’s tone was so suggestive Sorcha had to clench her teeth. The best thing to do would be to teleport up to her room. She didn’t want to hear any more of this. Sorcha closed her eyes and disappeared. Kyle felt the pulse as Sorcha teleport and realized with sudden clarity that she had heard Raven’s come on. She was probably thinking that he would bed the dark haired bitch. “Oh hell no, you are not going to think I fell for her bullshit. SORCHA!” He yelled the last focusing on her energy he pulled her towards him. It was Raven’s turn to say. “Excuse me?” The was an audible pop as Sorcha materialized right next to Kyle. “How the hell did you do that?” She gasped completely shocked. “One of the perks of being deceased.” He snapped. Raven saw instantly that Sorcha was interested in Kyle, it was in the way she looked at him. Over the years she’d developed a knack of seeing who Sorcha liked and stealing the man away from her. Raven couldn’t remember the last time she’d actually dated a man she wanted, as opposed to one that Sorcha had wanted. She’d stay with them just as long as it hurt Sorcha, when Sorcha turned her attention elsewhere Raven dumped them. It was so unfair that the worthless Sorcha was supposed to be this great Psy, it should have been Raven with the power, so she felt no guilt for anything she’d ever done to Sorcha, you couldn’t have everything you wanted after all. Raven was happy this time she would be taking a man she actually wanted herself. She wanted to grin with glee. Win Win. Time for another conquest. Raven stepped between Sorcha and Kyle and ran her hand over Kyle’s bare chest. “What did you call Sorcha for, I told you I want to spend a little time with you first.” Sorcha palled, feeling sick, what was he doing bringing her back so she could watch Raven rub her self all over him. Not going to happen. Sorcha tensed to teleport herself away. Kyle pointed a finger at her. “Don’t you move.” He said in a deadly voice. He put his hands on Raven’s and shook them off him. He wanted to shower, her touch had made him feel dirty. “Not even a little interested. I have a woman, so you’re not getting any where near this.” He gestured at himself. “Oh, Who?” Yeah who? And why the hell didn’t he say something about the other woman when he had her pinned to the damn passage floor! Kyle didn’t answer, he stepped around Raven and pulled Sorcha into his arms. Slipping one hand into the hair at the nape of her neck he curled the other around her waist, and pulled her tightly against him. “Like I’d touch Raven even if I was wearing a biohazard suit.” He breathed as he dropped his head and kissed her like he never planned on stopping. Sorcha was too shocked to kiss him back at first, but it didn’t take her body long to wake up in his arms. She slipped her arms around his neck as his long hair cascaded around her, shielding her in a cocoon of warmth and his manly scent. Raven started clearing her throat. By the third time Kyle broke the kiss turning his head he hissed at her “What! Damn it can’t you shut up and go away?” “Fine. Sorcha, the counsel wants a progress report. And Netta is worried apparently you haven’t contacted her at all.” “Oh shit!” Sorcha broke away from Kyle. “Tell her I’ll… never mind I’ll tell her myself.” Sorcha disappeared. “Oh for fuck sake. Thanks Raven. That’s the closest she’s let me get and you fucked it up.” “Gees, you should be thanking me. All the other guys did when I took them away before they could make the mistake of bedding that bitch.” “What?” Kyle’s voice was polar ice. “You heard me.” “You are telling me that you stole every man she’s ever wanted.” Kyle didn’t know whether to be glad or wring the woman’s neck. “More than that, I made sure that Sorcha never lost it. She’s still a virgin, cause she never could keep a man once I decided to take him.” “Go get out now and never set foot in this compound again. Just so we are clear – this is an Omega telling you. If you come here again I’ll kill you.” Kyle’s voice was deadly a venomous spider waiting to pounce its prey. Raven palled and stepped back, she didn’t make any more comments just teleported herself out. Sorcha was a virgin! Kyle didn’t know how to feel about it, part of him was fiercely glad, some primitive knuckle dragging part of him was happy he was going to be her first. But another part of him was horrified, disgusted with Raven and what she’d put Sorcha through. He was pleased he’d put on that little show. At the time it had been to show Sorcha that he wanted only her, and wouldn’t have touched Raven. But now he realized it had the duel purpose of showing Raven that he belonged to Sorcha and no matter what she did Raven could never have him. But what to do, he could understand now why Sorcha didn’t want him as a ghost. Who’d want to loose their virginity to a dead guy? He was going to have to consider a way around this situation, because he didn’t think he could wait to take her much longer. |
