| 11. “Kyle!” Sorcha shouted. “NO!” The word burst from Kyle when he saw Sorcha in the hands of one of the creatures. He was aware of power surging and bursting, it felt like his skin was ripping from the energy poring out of him. Kyle began to glow, a shimmering white light that etched through his skin, electrical sparks flickering off his body. The wind picked up swirling around him, plastering his jeans against his legs and lifting sand and dry leaves from the ground making Kyle the sun that all the debris revolved around. Everything seemed to slow down as Kyle transformed, the ties that held his hair flew off as the ebony mass tore loose from the confines of the braids, to whip around him like a separate entity. Everyone stopped and stared as Kyle became visible without Sorcha touching him. His rage was so encompassing that he was drawing power from everything around him, the streetlights flickered and went out the globes popping like birthday balloons at a child’s party. Kyle took a step forward his hand reached for Sorcha, a wave of power blasted through her, she gasped at the force of it, but didn’t hurt her, the creature holding her wasn’t so lucky, it disintegrated, it’s robes falling to the ground with a puff of dust. “RETURN NOW!” The words were still on the air and the weird neophytes were gone, they left no dead, no trace that they had been there at all. Kyle grabbed Sorcha and pulled her close to his body to shield her from any other danger. “Are you okay?” he asked her in a fear-tinged voice, his hair settling around her like a comforting blanket. “I’m fine, just got a fright.” Sorcha assured him. “Who said that?” Dante gasped out of breath. “No clue at all.” Seth shook his hands to speed the transformation back to normal. “But those mothers were hell to kill. Let's just be grateful they are gone.” “Fuck that! I want them all dead!” Kyle hissed, his body still glowing. “Yeah, and I want some medical attention.” Ross groaned in pain as he stood. The stranger sheathed his blades and moved closer, pulling his hood back so that his face was visible. He had sandy blond hair, his bangs hanging in just over his eyes, but not hiding them, they were a deep gray. At each temple he had a thin braid that flowed down over his chest. He looked young, no more than twenty, but for some reason he seemed familiar to Seth. “Thanks dude.” Dante told the stranger. “It’s a pleasure, I like to see rogues bleed.” He said in a dark voice. “Yeah, thanks for the assist, but who are you? I haven’t seen you around here before.” Seth was curious as hell, this guy had some serious skills. “And how did you manage to reinforce my shimmer?” Ross added. “Don’t know how I did that, but I could feel how to. I was hoping you could tell me?” “Are you an angel?” Ross asked, creating a shimmer, especially the type that Ross created was an angelic ability. The stranger shrugged his shoulders. “I don’t know what I am dude. You aren’t an angel and you can do it,” he pointed at Ross’s hands, which were still in claw mode. “so what’s being an angel got to do with it?” “My mother is an angel. I got some abilities from her.” The stranger shrugged as if it wasn’t important then turned to Seth. “They call me Sin.” He tilted his head, as if he could hear something the rest of them couldn’t. “I’ve got to go.” “Wait!” Seth called, but it was too late, Sin hand taken a running jump, launching himself fluidly onto the rooftop and he was gone. “That was weird.” Dante remarked. “What’s weird is how those thing knew we were here, or more importantly that Sorcha is a Walker.” Ross leaned down clasping a hand to his side. Sorcha listened as the men discussed it, she was still shaken by Kyle’s transformation and her body was vibrating from her close call. “Murdock?” Kyle asked in a deadly voice. If Murdock had snitched Kyle would kill the pint-sized creature, dead. “Impossible, he doesn’t know what Sorcha is, we didn’t tell him. Besides I think he wants the creepies gone as much as we want to take them out.” Dante came to his friend’s defense. “What the shit are they? I’ve never come across a creature like that before.” Seth checked the shallow cut on his arm as he spoke. Kyle didn’t care right now, he just wanted to get Sorcha to the compound where she’d be safe. “We can worry about this shit later, can we get Sorcha home before anyone else tries to take her?” Seth nodded “Lets get a move on.” They left Dante behind to drive the car back the compound. Sorcha insisted on teleporting the rest of them home. She didn’t like how much Ross was bleeding, even though he assured her the wound was already healing. She materialized them in the entrance hall, she didn’t want to try and take them straight to the infirmary, she hadn’t been in there and was a bit nervous that she’d put someone in a wall. Ross groaned as he became solid, god that was nauseating. He bit down on his teeth to keep from loosing his dinner all over the marble of the entry hall. The wound must be worse than he thought. JESSE He called out using telepathy. Sorcha hissed and gripped her head. “Ouch Ross, didn’t you focus that at all?” “I’m feeling to shitty to focus my eyes right now, let alone a thought. Seth help me to the infirmary.” Seth put an arm around Ross and helped him walk down the passage towards the medical suite. Dante walked behind them Kyle followed too, Sorcha was turning to walk towards the infirmary when Jesse appeared at the top of the stairs. Sweet Jesus, being around these mythos was devastating to a girls senses. He moved down the stairs with speed and grace, his bare feet making no sound. He tied the top button of his jeans his hair in glorious disarray around his body. Just looking at him made Sorcha think of beds and rumpled sheets. Kyle noticed Sorcha wasn’t following so he turned see why. He followed her eyes up to Jess. A black scowl clouded Kyle’s face. He felt the urge to tell Jesse to fuck off back to his room and put a damn shirt on. God, how could he be so defensive where this woman was concerned, he needed to get a handle on it and pronto, clothes weren’t a big thing in the compound and you’d often find mythos shirtless. They were creatures of nature after all. Most Mythos felt more comfortable in less clothing. Then he knew why it was driving him nuts that she found Jess attractive, it was because she didn’t understand that she was his. He had to find a way to claim her so she had no doubt. There were a few ways a Lycos male made a woman his - sex, scent marking, and scar marking. There was one problem with that and Sorcha wouldn’t let him near her until he was back in a body. Damn it, there had to be another way to claim her. She had to know he wouldn’t share her. Even her admiring looks. “Who’s hurt?” Jesse asked as he got to the bottom of the stairs. “Ross.” Sorcha answered him absently, frowning when he pulled his hair back into a ponytail. “Lets go fix him shall we?” He moved past her, Sorcha followed him with her eyes till they collided with a frowning Kyle. His hair was still loose, the black mass caressing his skin wherever it touched him. Just as she had suspected it would be, his unbraided hair made Kyle mouth wateringly gorgeous. She had the urge to rub the dark locks all over her body. She tamped down that thought in a hurry. “What?” She asked when the scowl darkened. “Don’t look at him like that.” His voice was a growl. His skin still held a residual glow from earlier. “Like what?” She almost snorted at her own pitiful attempt at lying. As if she didn’t know, Sorcha was embarrassed that Kyle had caught her gawking at Jesse. “With heat in your eyes.” He stalked towards her looking dangerous. Sorcha felt herself backing up, he looked angry and she didn’t want to mess with an angry Kyle. “I didn’t…” “You did.” He wasn’t going to debate the fact. “When you look at a man with heat in your eyes I want it to be me.” Oh god, why was her heart pounding? Fight or flight… hell no – Want. She wanted him and when he looked at her like that it only made it worse. “Kyle listen, I’m tired ,I’ll catch you in the AM.” She couldn’t deal with him now, after the night she’d just had she didn’t have the guts to tell him no. She ran up the stairs not even thinking to teleport, his words were burned into her brain, he wanted her to look at only him with heat in her eyes. That strange fluttery feeling began in her gut and Sorcha felt a smile pull at her lips. She sped up taking the last couple of stairs with a leap she ran down the corridor. Abruptly Sorcha felt someone grab her from behind. Kyle tackled Sorcha rolling himself under her so he hit the floor first cushioning her landing, then he rolled to get her under him. “Don’t run from me,” his voice was a bass whisper as he stared down at her shocked expression. “I’m Lycos… it’s my nature to hunt what runs.” Sorcha gasped as he dipped his head capturing her mouth in a toe-curling kiss. Oh god, she didn’t have the strength to push him away, she didn’t want to. She slipped her fingers into his hair and kissed him back, putting every ounce of frustrated passion in her response. A howl filled the air as the front doors slammed open. Rattling the doors along the corridor. Kyle jerked up breaking the kiss. “GABRIEL.” Someone called from downstairs. “Fuck!” Kyle spat with venom as he dropped his forehead to Sorcha’s “why did I have to pin you in the damn corridor.” He groaned in frustration but got up offering Sorcha a hand. When she took it he tugged her up pulling her into his arm. “We aren’t done with this Darlin’, just so you know, we aren’t close to done.” He let her go but held on to her hand and pulled her towards the stairs. Kyle reached the top of the stairs and let out a string of curses. Cole stood in the entrance hall, a widening pool of blood spreading around him, Bastien’s body draped in his arms. “Is he dead?” Kyle barked down. “No, but its close.” Fury burned in Cole’s eyes. He didn’t even register who he was talking to. “Take him to the infirmary, Jess is already in there. I’ll call the rest of the compound's Lycos to share energy.” Sorcha listen as Kyle released a series of growls. “I’m telling the Lycos to haul ass and get down here.” He explained. He led her down the stairs and towards the infirmary. Pushing open the doors he went through the lab to the exam rooms. Cole was putting Bastien down on an exam table, Seth helped Cole put the werewolf down without bumping him around too much. “Don’t let him die Jess, please don’t let him die.” Cole begged the angel. “I’ll do my best Cole, you know I will.” Jesse tried to reassure the Lycos, as he cut Bastien’s shirt off. He hissed when he saw the damage to Bastien’s chest, he looked like so much raw hamburger. “Damn it, its just my luck, Gabe goes AWOL and a truck load of horse shit hits a large fan.” “Gabe is AWOL?” Seth asked. “Yeah. Ross can you pass the swabs please?” Jess realized that Ross was currently occupying the other bed and cursed again. “Never mind.” Ross would be okay, his wound wasn’t too bad, but it was bad enough that Jess didn’t want him running around and tearing the thing open again. Sorcha tugged her hand out of Kyle’s and fetched the swabs that Jesse needed. She’d volunteered in the infirmary at Haven, and though she’d never seen wounds like this before she had more than a little medical training. “Thank you.” Jesse took the swabs from Sorcha. She put the rest down and started cleaning the other side of Bastien’s chest. Drew burst through the doors. “Who’s hurt?” She visibly relaxed when she saw Seth then her eyes went to Bastien. “Oh no.” “Drew can you get the Lycos to start sending energy, Bastien’s going to need as much as we can put together. Dante can you call wolf central and get them to send over some people.” Dante and Drew nodded as Seth took control of the situation and went to their tasks. “What happened?” Kyle asked Cole as the wolf collapsed into a chair near the bed. Cole looked up shock registering on his face. “Kyle?” Sorcha also looked around surprised, she wasn’t touching Kyle, he shouldn’t be visible to anyone else. Yet Cole could see and hear him. Kyle realized the same thing. “Who else can see and hear me.” “I think all of us can, what the fuck, Sorcha’s no where near you?” Seth frowned. “Could it have something to do with the weird shit that happened during that fight?” Ross suggested weakly from the second bed. “That might be it…” Sorcha noticed there was still blood pooling around Cole’s feet. “You’re hurt Cole.” “It’s a scratch.” He dismissed her concern. “Scratches don’t bleed like that. Kyle helped Cole onto the bed. Ross move over.” She took charge. Kyle was impressed, Sorcha had never met Cole before tonight and here was his woman bossing the big boss of the werewolves around like he was a puppy. He helped Cole over to the bed as Seth left the room to go see how the reinforcement hunt was going. |
